To receive funded service from Kempsey Regional Support a person must have a disability which: (a) is attributable to an intellectual, cognitive, neurological, psychiatric, sensory or physical impairment, or a combination of any of those impairments, and (b) is permanent or likely to be permanent, and (c) results in a significant reduction in the person's functional capacity in one or more areas of major life activity, including, for example, communication, social interaction, learning, mobility, decision-making, self-care and self-management, and (d) results in the need for support, whether or not of an ongoing nature.
KRS accepts referrals by professionals, work places, schools, families, carers, friends (only if consent is given by the person with a disability and their family), or by self-referral.With permission from the person with a disability, their family and carers, KRS can connect them with other services to meet their needs.
If so, that service will then register the person with a disability using their own referral process. The service can be used according to an Individual Plan tailored in response to the needs of the person with a disability and their family / carer. The person with a disability can also register to participate in an age-appropriate Group programs, which provides respite for carers on a regular basis.
