At the Austism Specific Early Learning and Care Centre (ASELCC), their job is to ensure that young children with a diagnosis or symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder are able to access high quality early learning within a day care setting. They also have a role in providing parents with support in the care of their children and hope to give them the opportunity to participate more fully in the community. Through their affiliations with research programs and universities, the centre has a research component which will help achieve a better understanding of ASD. Their service is one of six Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centres around Australia, and the only such centre in Tasmania. The ASELCC is jointly implemented by the Australian Government's Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and the Department of Social Services (DSS), formally known as the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).
